Back At Anchorage

And here we are, home for a couple of days in Anchorage. This Sam's is home for many RVers as they travel from one location to another. We stayed here for a couple of days to wait on our single's girls group that we had been traveling with. They were supposed to be traveling from the opposite direction, out of Fairbanks. We looked at their journal and decided that they weren't going to be getting here for a few days and we couldn't get in touch with them because of where they were and no phone service. We went on to Wasilla hoping to get in touch with them there. We stopped at Wal-Mart in Wasilla to load up on groceries. We still didn't get to meet with Governor Palin though, on our second time to Wasilla.

There are lots of homes being built up into the mountains in Anchorage.

This looks more like city traffic so we must be getting closer to Anchorage.

Another picture of the mud flats as we're going around the mountain into Anchorage.

These are mud flats on the way to Anchorage on the bay. The tide was way down and this is whats under the water.

More amazing, beautiful mountains.

Oops, two of the same picture again.

We stopped at a pull out and there was a tour bus there. Some of the people were pretty amazed with our coach. It was almost as if they'd never seen one that close. There's motorhomes all over here. Lots of the RVs are Class C though. There's a higher % of them and fifth wheels than the bigger motorhomes. These people I think were from a different country but we didn't ask them where they were from.

More views of the mountains. In Soldotna, there are no mountains. It is pretty flat.

While we were at Soldotna we met a few people that their cars had been totally messed up. Their guard from the coach to their car didn't protect the bottom shroud of the car. I saw a fabric store and thought that maybe I could buy some table cloth fabric so we could use to protect our windshield. After I found out it was $13.00 a yd and we needed about 3 or 4 yds, I thought maybe I should do something different. I went to a thrift shop and found this blanket. Its actuall the same fabric that they make mexican ponchos out of. Anyway it is 2 little blankets sewed together. It seems to work pretty good and its more protection than no protection. I took this picture from the back up camera monitor in the coach.

After getting out of that traffic, we got into this kind of traffic, "construction". Thats the name of the game, its not as bad as it looks or sounds.

Still more of the traffic. This is just what was in front of us. It was worse behind us.

We're headed back to Anchorage on July 5th. There was quite a bit of traffic. I don't know if it was because of the holiday weekend, because it was my birthday or because there was an intersection with a stop sign on our road to get to a main road. We decided that it was the stop sign that was creating the problem.

This is the only fish that we've seen in Alaska. It was at the Visitors Center in Soldotna.

Tommy is always trying to fix everybody's coaches and satellites. Of course over here we can't get satellite but because we've always had satellite in the states, many of us don't ever use local stations and now that we want them, some of us had to do whatever we needed to get some sort of TV. Tommy fixed this guys TV too. He had gone and got a box so he could convert from analog to digital and he really didn't need it after Tommy worked on his TV. He was going to take it back. Just for that he invited us to his place in Florida whenever we're in that direction.

The sun is trying to set at about 11:00 pm, but it is still daylight.

This is a couple that we met in South Texas (Harlingen) about 4 years ago. We kept in touch through forwarding emails and such. When I emailed my friends about our Alaskan bound trip, she emailed me back and we found out that they were coming to Alaska also and were a few days behind us. Anyway we finally met up in Soldotna and we were both at the same campground for 10 days. Neither one of us had any idea that we were taking this trip at the same time. We really enjoyed spending time with them. Also, she (Barbara and Dennis) was the one that got me started on this blog business. She set me all up and here I am. Thanks Barbara and thanks Dennis for letting me take Barbara away from you while she was helping me. We left them at Soldotna and they will be staying longer in Alaska.

This guy would set up across the street from our campground. It always smelled so good so one day I walked across the road and got me an Alaskan Reindeer Sausage. It was really good with grilled onions. He stayed pretty busy every day.

This is how you get to the bank from our campgroud. Notice the wet suit hanging there. I guess somebody had been wading in the river.

This is the Kenai River behind our RV camping site in Soldotna. People should be salmon fishing there along side the bank.
