Traveling To and From Anchorage (pop 277,498)

RVs park anywhere there is a pull out or a place where they might fit. They make that place home. These people took their car off the trailer and went sight seeing, leaving their coach in a
desolate place.
Notice the difference in the mountains. Some of them are so green and next to them are mountains covered in snow.

As you can see there are RVs everywhere.

More mountains.

We had stopped for construction so we're following the pilot truck again. The trucks on the right are the truck with the gravel and stuff.

This is the only moose I've seen in Alaska and he's traveling with us. These couple that we met that live here in Alaska, gave it to me. I guess he felt sorry cause I hadn't seen one. He's holding some of the books that I have accumulated out here.

More mountains.

There are moose signs all over the place and there are lots of moose in Alaska. Many people that I've talked to have got moose pictures. I haven't seen a single one. One time in Canada I saw the back end of one and that's as close as I've got to seeing one.

More mountains covered with snow.

We also saw 2 bald eagles sitting on this tree in the bay.
I think that it was the mother and cub.

We saw this bear when the tide was out. There were 2 bears and they were too far and this is what I could get. They were walking on the mud flats.

The roads again go around the mountains to be able to get to other places.

This is the Beluga Point. It got its name because of the Beluga Whales.

Some scenery just outside of Anchorage.

And still more. We had McDonalds and Taco Bell just across the road.

And more. We weren't going to stay there that long but we ordered a radio/CD for our coach and it was going to take two days to come in and then they had to install it.

More of the RVs at Sam's.

We made it to Anchorage and decided to stay at the Sam's Club RV Park. This is the park (free)where most people that come through Anchorage stay. Some people stay and stay and stay. One person that we met had already been there 9 days when we got there and after we stayed there 4 nights ourselves, he was still there. We were gone for a couple of weeks and when we came back through, he was still there. He told us he had left but he had come back. Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska. The population of Alaska is 655,435 and (277,498), 40% live in Anchorage.
More traffic than usual. It was even scarey because we hadn't had this kind of traffic in weeks.

Going on the onramp to get to Wasilla and the bigger roads.

This is Palmer. The traffic is different from here on into Anchorage. We haven't seen much of 4 lane hwys.

Trying to get hooked up so we can start rolling to Governor Palin's home town of Wasilla.

Its moving time again.

And everywhere we've gone Tommy has tried to get satellite. He did get it in Tok for about 10 minutes. The satellite dishes and about 4 feet to be able to receive satellite. The dish also is supposed to be turned down towards the ground. He's even tried to find one and buy one just for the challenge.

This is the name of the park where we stayed.
Another view of the creek.

This is the creek next to the property.

This is the entrance to the park and the office building.

On our way to Palmer we stopped at this pull out. There were some people there that were going rafting but there was also a couple that lived about 10 miles from this place. She was practicing on driving a small RV. We started talking to them and when we asked them about finding a place to stay in Palmer, they told us they had an RV park that was closed because of some problems with them being too close to a creek and not being able to get a water well too close to the creek. Anyway they told us we could stay there if we didn't mind boondocking. They said we could stay as long as we wanted. We were going to stay one day and ended up staying two. Tommy had decided that he was going to work on one of the slides. I hope that its fixed now for a while.
