Heading Toward Palmer

Haven't you had enough of this construction? We have too. This blog is about our trip. If you are following this, you'll see and know lots of the roads and scenery in Alaska, therefore, you're taking the same trip through my eyes with a lot less expense. Today we are in Fairbanks but since I just started the blog, I am behind with my postings and I'm trying to catch up.

This is where the debris was pushed off the road. It seems like they are trying to make the road around the mountain wider.

This is a sign with a series of blasting signals.

Isn't it so much fun? We've been playing games of follow the leader in Alaska for quite a while.

We even had time to chat. We were stopped for about 3o minutes. They were dynamiting the mountain to make the road wider. They had to clear all the debris before we could go through.

Here we go down the hill.

I don't even have to look at the road to drive (ha, ha). We were stopped for some construction so I was looking at the river below.

I do drive some, and I'm good at it, but I don't like too.

This is a lake covered with ice and snow.

A river along side the mountains.
All the mountains have different shapes.

This was a beautiful glacier and frozen lake that we enjoyed while on our way towards Palmer.
Just a little bit of scenery. All these trees remind me of Christmas. I wouldn't mind decorating one of those trees for Christmas every year.

We met a caravan of about 11 class c RVs that were going into Valdez.
This is some of the Alaskan pipe line from Valdez.
And here we go. Follow the leader and we're at the front in this game. We also waiting the longest.

More road construction.

This is compacted snow and ice that forms and crystalizes and melts very slowly.

This is leading to the Thompson Pass which we didn't see on our way into Valdez because the fog was pretty thick. Some people were worried about getting on that pass.

More road work. Every road that we have traveled on has had some construction at several places.

The Horse and Sled Trail is on the left side of the road where the clouds meet the mountain.

The sign telling about the Horse and Sled Trail.

Another view of the tunnel in the mountain.

This is one view of the tunnel.

This is a sign that stands beside a train tunnel that got started and didn't get finished. You can read it yourself.
